What Is Group Skill Tracking?

 

Group tracking allows teachers to create sets of students in order to measure group success. This section of Unique Learning System®​ can help educators support the development of Student Learning Targets or Student Learning Objectives based on state standards. 

Your state or district may not incorporate SLTs or SLOs and you may ask, “How can group skill tracking apply to me?”. It can also be used to group selected students to compare progress.

Here are a couple of examples:

• I may want to group my students by differentiated level to highlight some strengths and weaknesses that apply to the instruction in my classroom.
• I may have different groups of students that may or may not focus on different grade levels or academic areas, such as an a.m. class and a p.m. class.
• I may have students who are not fully included in my classroom, who come in and out for instruction, whom I’d like to place in a group and monitor.

 

The main assessments that will be plotted on graphs for group skill tracking are the Benchmark Assessments. Benchmarks are modified performance tools that measure success in identified skill areas. These tools can help you establish baseline data for a student and monitor growth over time.
