The News-2-You® weekly articles and worksheets that open as an iDoc have text-to-speech capabilities. n2y® uses a natural-sounding text to speech tool to support the newspaper. You can view and hear activities on computers, whiteboards, and tablets to enhance and extend instruction.
To make text on the page speak, click on a line of text in the document. See text with highlighting as it is read-aloud in activities and communication boards. You can change highlighting color to meet student's needs or preferences during instruction with just a click. You can also hide symbols in activities for text-only versions.
Speak button reads one line of text at a time.
Speak Page button reads the entire page of text. The Speak Page button supports auto scroll, a feature that scrolls the page as the text is read aloud, at any zoom percentage.
The Speak Page button is only available in articles. Worksheets and other articles support text to speech by simply clicking the line of text in the document.
Text to Speech Settings
Using the Settings panel, you can also change the highlight color and rate of speech (words per minute). Reading speed can be set to Regular or Slow Speech*. You can also disable text-to-speech capabilities in the document through Settings.
*Audiobooks are recommended to be 159-160 words per minute (regular speech of iDoc), which is the range that people comfortably hear and vocalize words. Students with disabilities typically read slower in order to process information.
