The Scope & Sequence documents were created to show the scope of the skills covered in Unique Learning System and the sequence of skill development across grade bands. By following the Suggested Monthly Plan, you expose students to all skills listed for their grade band monthly, and provide access to general education curriculum in a comprehensive manner. The new documents are located in the Instructional Guides section of the Teacher Reference Materials.
The Scope and Sequence of Unique Learning System addresses skills at each grade band through the use of instructional targets and foundational skills. Instructional targets are summarized into statements that allow us to show foundational skills that repeat across grade bands.
Entries on the left hand side relate to the ULS instructional targets as well as state extended standards. The entries are not one-to-one matches with ULS instructional targets. Instructional targets are summarized into statements that allow us to show skills that repeat across grade bands as well as subtleties from grade band to grade band.
Furthermore, there are two types of entries in the scope and sequence: instructional priorities and instructional opportunities.
- Instructional priorities relate to grade band ULS instructional targets. These are the skills that show up in extended standards for a grade and are represented by a filled-in circle on the Scope and Sequence document.
- Instructional opportunities relate to grade bands ULS differentiated tasks. These are skills that are not represented in the extended standards for a grade but are often skills students are working on through the way they access materials and receive differentiated support. Instructional opportunities are represented by a unfilled circle.
Skills are then coded to show Lesson and Activity.
- The first character indicates Lesson number.
- The second set of characters indicates Activity number.
