n2y offers a total solution for special education. Our individual solutions combine to support the complete learning environment. For targeted, standards-aligned math instruction and activities, our educators turn to the lessons in Unique Learning System. Unique Learning System is the solution that directly addresses this goal. Supplemental opportunities to practice math skills can be found throughout our other solutions.
Math in Unique Learning System
Unique Learning System’s math lessons address all five major math standard categories:
- Number Sense
- Spatial Sense and Geometry
- Data and Probability
Unique Learning System differs from the typical general education curriculum in that it repeats these categories each month. This allows students the ability to practice and reinforce skills throughout the whole year.
Teachers should familiarize themselves with the format of the Unique Learning System lesson plans, as well as the math lessons available for their grade band. Teachers can reference the articles below for additional information that is specific to their grade band.
- Preschool Monthly Lessons
- Elementary Monthly Lessons
- Intermediate Monthly Lessons
- Middle School Monthly Lessons
- High School Monthly Lessons
- Transition Monthly Lessons
The monthly lessons have the following tools built in to support this practice:
When viewing your My Plan through calendar view of Teacher Dashboard, you may see an orange exclamation point in your math blocks. This exclamation point indicates that resources need to be configured. Using your district pacing guide, alignment to the general education curriculum or individual student IEP goals as the basis for your decision, preview the suggested resources and then choose the lesson activities that best suit the needs of the recipient(s) of the My Plan. If the suggested resources do not meet your needs, delete them and use Add Resources to browse other available math lessons.
Dynamic Math - Unlimited Math Problems!
Dynamic Math is an interactive feature that allows you to refresh the numbers in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems within Unique Learning System, providing an expansive collection of math problems for practice. Dynamic Math is available in the Elementary and Intermediate Number Sense lessons and the Middle and High School Math Story Problem lessons.
The Number Journal is included in all Number Sense, Math Story and Algebra lessons for grades pre-K through high school. It is an interactive companion to the Mathematics Guide, designed to help students visualize mathematical concepts and develop strategies for problem solving. Incorporating the Number Journal into math instruction allows you to build students’ foundational math skills while engaging them in aligned grade-level and age-appropriate content. The Number Journal is also available in Teacher Reference Materials > Instructional Tools > Math Journals > Number Journal so you can create additional practice problems at any time.
Math Supporting Materials in Teacher Reference Materials
In addition to the monthly lessons, teachers can use the content in the Teacher Reference Materials to provide additional support and ensure they are getting the most out of each lesson. These materials include:
The Mathematics Guide supports educators with monthly math lessons. The Mathematics Guide gives direction on incorporating standards-based math activities at any level of learning. The guide is located in the Teacher Reference Materials > Instructional Guides > Teaching Strategies > Mathematics.
