Who this article is for: District Tool Provider Administrator & District Program Administrator Implementing n2y Solutions
n2y understands and supports the need for streamlining logins from your LMS or remote learning platform to your vendor partnerships, with security as a priority. We currently support LTI Basic Launch for single sign-on into n2y solutions as a teacher, service provider, administrator, or student using n2y applications.
Pre-Requisites:
- Staff is licensed and students are seated in n2y solutions.
- Staff and student's emails are added/updated appropriately in n2y solutions.
- Student profile and student view configurations are set up in n2y solutions.
STEP 1 - Get the Configuration Information
You’ll need to get the configuration information from your LMS (Tool Consumer) for the setup process of LTI 1.0. You will need:
- LTI Consumer Key (or, OAUTH Key)
- LTI Shared Secret (or, OAUTH Secret)
STEP 2 - Set Up Domain Level Security Overrides in n2y Solutions (Tool Provider)
- Contact customer support (support@n2y.com) to authenticate a district administrator in n2y solutions.
- Select the single domain level approver for your district (only one person can have this role). The district administrator will be provided a login and link to the domain level security overrides, which will apply to any person (teacher, service provider, admin, or student) with such domain.
- In the Domain Level Security Overrides page, enable LTI Basic Launch.
- Enter the key and secret from your Tool Consumer (LMS) for teachers and/or students.
- NOTE: A different key and secret may be applied for teachers and students.
STEP 3 - Set Up n2y as a Tool Provider in Your LMS (Tool Consumer)
Enter the following information for n2y as a Tool Provider:
- Launch URL: https://login.n2y.com/api/loginapi/ltilaunch
- LTI Consumer Key (or, OAUTH Key)
- LTI Shared Secret (or, OAUTH Secret)
- Additional Mandatory Settings:
- Username
- Email Address
- Role List (Student or Teacher)
- View Mode = Open in New Window
STEP 4 - Staff & Students Launch into n2y Solutions from Your LMS
Staff and students can now launch from your LMS into n2y solutions. Since there are many ways to customize the launch point from numerous LMS systems, we don’t provide detailed directions on how to set this up or train your faculty and students on this process.
When a teacher launches into the n2y solutions, they will land on the welcome page and will be able to navigate to any of the solutions they have a license for.
When a student launches into n2y solutions, they will land on their Student View home page and will be able to navigate to any of the solutions they are seated in and configured for by the teacher/service provider.
FAQs
Q: Can we use LTI to take your content or grades/scores into our LMS?
A: n2y solutions are designed to support students who require specific modifications, accommodations, and differentiated content. The platform is specifically designed to automatically enable these individualized settings and track data on student interactions and has a direct link to state standards and accommodations that ensure compliance with IDEA, ESSA, and other state and federal regulations. Removing content from n2y’s platform would likely destroy the integrity of our solution.
Q: Can I launch directly into a specific page, lesson, or activity in your solution from our LMS?
A: We only allow the use of the launch link (https://login.n2y.com/api/loginapi/ltilaunch) into our solutions from your LMS platform and require that it be opened in a new window.
Q: Can I embed your solution into our LMS?
A: We only allow the use of the launch link (https://login.n2y.com/api/loginapi/ltilaunch) into our solutions from your LMS platform and require that it be opened in a new window. Embedding the frame into your LMS platform could interfere with the n2y solution experience, including how activities display, function, or record data.
Q: If my teacher and/or student was not already set up in your system and they launch from our LMS, what happens?
A: If a teacher or student launches into our platform through your LMS setup and they did not already exist, or they did exist but without a matching email address, they will be created as a new user in our system. The new user will not be licensed or seated in any n2y solutions. The district subscription manager will need to grant access after this happens. Note: n2y does not have a cleanup process to handle duplication of a user from launching n2y solutions without a matching email address.
Q: My student is getting an “Ask Teacher for Help” message when launching into n2y solutions.
A: If your student is getting this message, it means that the teacher needs to configure something in the student’s settings in order for them to start engaging with their activities in n2y’s Student View. Click here to learn more.
